Biography
Patrícia Portela grew up in Lisbon, Macau, Utrecht and Helsinki. She works in visual arts, theater, dance and cinema. Almost always behind the scenes. She lives between Paço de Arcos, outskirts of Lisbon and Antwerp. She is 49 years old. Patrícia is the author of novels such as Banquete (2012, finalist for the Grand Prize for Novels and Novellas from the Portuguese Writers’ Association) or Hífen (finalist for the Correntes d’Escritas Prize in 2022). She took part in the prestigious International Writers Program in Iowa City in 2013 (where Nobel laureates Orhan Pamuk and Mo Yan also resided). In 2018, she brought the installation Parasomnia to the Macau Arts Festival, one of the five finalists of the first Media Art Sonae Award 2015, which continues to circulate across five continents.
