TAN WUCHANG

Biography

Tan Wuchang is from Yongxin in Jiangxi Province. He is a poetry critic with extensive influence in China and abroad. In June 2004 he received a doctorate in literature from Peking University. After graduation, he taught at the College of Literature, Beijing Normal University. He is currently the director of the Research Center for Chinese Contemporary “New Poetry” at Beijing Normal University. He has published more than 30 kinds of academic works and poetry collections including The Death Imagination in Chinese New Poetry in the 20th Century, Poetry Exile and Reconstruction – On the Third Generation of Poetry, Chinese New Poetry List (Volume 2011-2017), Witness Mo Yan, Facing the Sea and Spring Blossoms – Haizi poetry selection and The Lectures in the Beijing Normal University (5 volumes). In 2007, he was named one of China’s Top Ten Rising Poetry Critics. In 2012 he edited the 10-volume China’s Rising Critics Collection (published by Kunlun Publishing House). Since 2011, he has initiated and hosted the annual “China Rising Critics Forum”. For more than a decade, he has served on the jury of several national poetry awards.
