Biography

Raquel Ochoa is a Portuguese author of novels, biographies and travel literature. She was born in Lisbon in 1980 and graduated in law. In 2009 she was awarded the Prémio Agustina Bessa-Luís for her novel A Casa-Comboio, which recounts the story of an Indo-Portuguese family from Damão and the untold history of Portuguese India. She has published several  books to date including O Vento dos Outros, an account of her travels in South America; Bana: Uma Vida a Cantar Cabo Verde, the biography of Cape Verdean singer Bana; A Infanta Rebelde, a biography of Princess D. Maria Adelaide de Bragança; Mar Humano; Sem Fim à Vista: A Viagem; and As Noivas do Sultão. Her biography of Manuel Vicente is the result of several years of conversation and friendship between her and the architect.
