Biography

José Manuel Simões was born in Coimbra, Portugal. He has a Post-Doctorate in the Science of Communication from the Portuguese Catholic University, a PhD in Global Studies from University of Saint Joseph, Macau, and a Master’s degree in Communication and Journalism from the University of Coimbra. He has published academic papers and journal articles in eight countries, along with several books, among them the biographies of Cesária Évora, Júlio Iglésias, David Byrne and Delfins, as well as his PhD thesis Índios Potiguara: Memória, Asilo e Poder, the historical novel Deus Tupã, the travel book Ponto de Luz and the academic book Jornalismo Multicultural em Português: Estudo de Caso em Macau. For the last nine years, he has focused his attention on the field of education, working at the University of Saint Joseph, where he is assistant professor and the head of the Communication & Media department.
