Djaimilia Pereira de Almeida was born in Luanda, Angola, in 1982. She graduated in Portuguese Studies from Lisbon’s Universidade NOVA and received a Master’s in the Theory of Literature from the University of Lisbon School of Letters (FLUL). In 2013 she was among the winners of the Serrote Essay Contest held by Brazil’s Instituto Moreira Salles. She has published short essays in publications such as Afrolis, Buala, Common Knowledge, Forma de Vida, LER, Observador and XXI. Her debut novel, Esse Cabelo, won in the literature category of the Prémios Novos 2016. Djaimilia was also a finalist in the Rolex Mentor and Protégé Arts Initiative 2016.
